Scottish Water – Glencorse 26/05/2008
Terra Tek Limited recently completed the site investigation and reporting for the Glencorse-Edinburgh water treatment works and pipeline in conjunction with its sister company, Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Limited, who carried out the soils boring and rotary drilling works.
Scottish Water has received planning permission from Midlothian Council to build the treatment plant and part of the pipeline which will transfer the supply of clearer, fresher drinking water to around 450,000 customers in and around the capital.
The site work was carried out in two parts: –
The Water Treatment Works comprised 19 soils bores to depths of 5 - 25 metres, with several advanced by rotary techniques to some 35 metres. In addition a total of 21 trial pits were excavated by a tracked machine.
The Transfer System (pipeline route) Works, over an 11.5 kilometre route, comprised 31 soils bores, including 5 rotary bores, at depths between 4 - 10 metres. In addition some 150 machine dug trial pits were excavated, all through mixed
farmland, woodland, public spaces and verges of the Edinburgh City By-Pass.
A programme of gas and groundwater monitoring was carried out after the site works and an extensive suite of testing completed in the Terra Tek laboratories.
